What to Expect
01Before you leave
- Eat a light meal. Don't go on an empty stomach
- Take any pre-meds your doctor prescribed
- Charge all devices fully
- Pack your bag (use the list above)
- Have someone lined up for the ride home
02Arrival & check-in
- Check in at the infusion center front desk
- They'll check your vitals and blood work
- A nurse will access your port or start an IV
- You'll get anti-nausea meds first. These are your friends
03During infusion
- Some drugs drip for hours so get comfortable
- Walk around if you can (good for circulation)
- Stay hydrated. Drink water throughout
- Let nurses know immediately if you feel weird
- Use distractions: shows, music, games, sleep
04After treatment
- Have someone drive you home
- Rest. Your body just went to war
- Keep drinking fluids (water, electrolytes)
- Eat what you can tolerate, don't force it
- Note any side effects that come up and write them down
