What to Expect

01Before you leave

  • Eat a light meal. Don't go on an empty stomach
  • Take any pre-meds your doctor prescribed
  • Charge all devices fully
  • Pack your bag (use the list above)
  • Have someone lined up for the ride home

02Arrival & check-in

  • Check in at the infusion center front desk
  • They'll check your vitals and blood work
  • A nurse will access your port or start an IV
  • You'll get anti-nausea meds first. These are your friends

03During infusion

  • Some drugs drip for hours so get comfortable
  • Walk around if you can (good for circulation)
  • Stay hydrated. Drink water throughout
  • Let nurses know immediately if you feel weird
  • Use distractions: shows, music, games, sleep

04After treatment

  • Have someone drive you home
  • Rest. Your body just went to war
  • Keep drinking fluids (water, electrolytes)
  • Eat what you can tolerate, don't force it
  • Note any side effects that come up and write them down
